leaders} to the end of the verse [Surah al-Māʾida: 12]. So this is Allah's covenant that He covenanted with them, and it is Allah's covenant concerning us; so whoever fulfills Allah's covenant, Allah fulfills His covenant for him (1).

809- And it was narrated to me from al-Minjāb, he said: Bishr narrated to us, from Abū Rawq, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding His statement: "and fulfill My covenant, I will fulfill your covenant," he says: Fulfill what I commanded you of obedience to Me and what I prohibited you from of disobedience to Me regarding the Prophet Peace and blessings of God be upon him and regarding others; "I will fulfill your covenant," he says: I will be pleased with you and admit you to Paradise (2).

810- And Yūnus narrated to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Ibn Zayd said regarding His statement: "and fulfill My covenant, I will fulfill your covenant," he said: Fulfill My command, I will fulfill what I promised you; and he recited: {Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties} up to where he reached: {and who is truer to his covenant than Allah?} [Surah al-Tawba: 111]; he said: This is His covenant that He covenanted with them (3).

The discourse regarding the interpretation of the statement of Him whose mention is Exalted: ﴿and Me alone fear (40)﴾

Abū Jaʿfar He said: And the interpretation of His statement: "and Me alone fear," is: and Me alone fear and beware—O you among the Children of Israel who have neglected My covenant and denied My Messenger, whose covenant I took in what I sent down of the Books upon My prophets, that you believe in him and follow him—lest I bring down upon you of My punishment, if you do not turn back and repent to Me by following him and affirming what I sent down to him, that which I brought down upon those among your ancestors who opposed My command and denied My messengers.
