from Muḥammad ibn Abī Muḥammad, the freed slave of Zayd ibn Thābit, from ʿIkrima, or from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās: "and Me alone fear," lest I bring down upon you what I brought down upon those before you of your forefathers of retribution that you have known, such as transformation and other than it (1).

812- And al-Muthannā ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, he said: Ādam al-ʿAsqalānī narrated to us, he said: Abū Jaʿfar narrated to us, from al-Rabīʿ, from Abū al-ʿĀliya, regarding His statement: "and Me alone fear," he says: So fear Me.

813- And Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to me, he said: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, he said: Asbāṭ narrated to us, from al-Suddī: "and Me alone fear," he says: And Me alone fear (2).

The discourse regarding the interpretation of the statement of the Exalted: ﴿And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is with you﴾

Abū Jaʿfar He said: He means by His statement, majestic is His praise, "believe": affirm the truth of, as we have previously provided the explanation thereof. (3) And He means by His statement: "in what I have sent down," that which was sent down to Muḥammad Peace and blessings of God be upon him of the Qur'an. And He means by His statement: "confirming that which is with you," that the Qur'an confirms that which is with the Jews among the Children of Israel of the Torah.
