As for the interpretation of the truth which they concealed while knowing it, it is what:

832 - Ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, he said: Salama narrated to us, from Ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Muḥammad, the freed slave of Zayd ibn Thābit, from ʿIkrima, or from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās: "And conceal the truth," he says: Do not conceal what you have of knowledge regarding My Messenger and what he brought, while you find it with you in what you know from the Books that are in your hands. (1)

833 - And Abū Kurayb narrated to us, he said: ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, he said: Bishr ibn ʿUmāra narrated to us, from Abū Rawq, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from Ibn ʿAbbās: "And conceal the truth," he says: You knew that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah; so He forbade them from that. (2)

834 - And Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to me, he said: Abū ʿĀṣim narrated to us, he said: ʿĪsā narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Najīḥ, from Mujāhid, concerning the statement of Allah: "And conceal the truth while you know," he said: The People of the Book conceal Muḥammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, while they find him written with them in the Torah and the Gospel (3).

835 - And al-Muthannā ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to me, he said: Abū Ḥudhayfa narrated to us, he said: Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Najīḥ, from Mujāhid, the like of it.

836 - And Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to me, he said: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, he said: Asbāṭ narrated to us, from al-Suddī: "And conceal the truth while you know," he said: The truth is Muḥammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him (4).
