Thus God, majestic be His mention, caused them to despair of what they had led themselves to hope for—namely, salvation from the punishment of God, despite their denial of the truth they recognized and their opposition to God's command to follow Muhammad, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, and what he brought from Him—through the Intercession of their ancestors or anyone else among all people; and He informed them that nothing will benefit them in His presence except Repentance (Tawba) to Him from their Disbelief and turning back from their deviation, and He made what He enacted concerning them in this regard a precedent for everyone who follows a path like theirs, so that no deviator should hope for God's mercy (1).

And this verse, even if its expression is General in recitation, its intended meaning is Specific in Interpretation, due to the abundance of reports from the Messenger of God, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, that he said: "My Intercession is for the people of major sins among my nation," and that he said: "There is no prophet except that he was given a supplication, and I have stored my supplication as Intercession for my nation, and it will reach, if God wills, those among them who do not associate anything with God" (2).

Thus, it has become clear thereby that God, majestic be His praise, may pardon His believing servants—through the Intercession of our Prophet Muhammad, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, for them—from much of the punishment for their offenses between them and Him (3), and that His statement: {nor shall intercession be accepted from it} applies only to whoever dies upon his Disbelief without having repented to God, the Mighty and Sublime. This is not the place for lengthy discussion regarding Intercession, the promise, and the threat, such that we would exhaust the arguments concerning that; rather, we will present what is sufficient in its proper places, if God wills.
