is excused for being ignorant of, is a meaning other than the clarification of the avenues for seeking its interpretation. Rather, it is a report that among its interpretation is that which it is not permissible for anyone to be ignorant of. And a report has also been narrated from the Messenger of God, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, similar to what we have said regarding that, though there is some reservation regarding its chain of transmission.

72- Yūnus ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā al-Ṣadafī narrated to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: I heard ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith narrating, from al-Kalbī, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, the freed slave of Umm Hāniʾ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās: that the Messenger of God, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: "The Qur'an was revealed upon four aspects: lawful and prohibited matters which no one is excused for being ignorant of, a Tafsir the Arabs interpret, a Tafsir the scholars interpret, and ambiguous verses which no one knows except God, Exalted is His mention, and whoever claims knowledge of it other than God, Exalted is His mention, is a liar" (1).
