95- Yūnus narrated to us, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: I heard al-Layth narrating from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Ibn al-Musayyab: that he would not speak except concerning what was known of the Qurʾān.(1)

96- Ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, he said: Ḥukkām narrated to us, he said: Sufyān narrated to us, from Hishām, from Ibn Sīrīn, he said: I asked ʿAbīda al-Salmānī about a verse, and he said: "Adhere to uprightness, for those who knew regarding what the Qurʾān was revealed have passed away."

97- Yaʿqūb narrated to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya narrated to us, from Ayyūb and Ibn ʿAwn, from Muḥammad, he said: I asked ʿAbīda about a verse from the Qurʾān, and he said: "Those who knew regarding what the Qurʾān was revealed have passed away; fear Allah and adhere to uprightness."

98- Yaʿqūb narrated to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Ibn Abī Mulayka: that Ibn ʿAbbās was asked about a verse regarding which, if some of you had been asked, they would have spoken about it, yet he refused to speak concerning it.

99- Yaʿqūb narrated to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya narrated to us, from Mahdī ibn Maymūn, from al-Walīd ibn Muslim, he said: Ṭalq ibn Ḥabīb came to Jundab ibn ʿAbd Allāh and asked him about a verse from the Qurʾān, so he said to him: "I adjure you, if you are a Muslim, that you get up and leave me"—or he said: "that you do not sit with me."

100- ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd narrated to me, he said: My father informed me, he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shawdhab narrated to us, he said: Yazīd ibn Abī Yazīd narrated to me, he said: We used to ask Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab about the lawful and the prohibited, and he was the most knowledgeable of people, but whenever we asked him about the Tafsir of a verse from the Qurʾān, he would remain silent as if he had not heard.

101- And Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, he said: Shuʿba informed us, from ʿAmr ibn Murra, he said: A man asked Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab about a verse from the Qurʾān,
