251 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Salam ibn Harb informed me, from Ishaq ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Farwah, from Ghaylan, who said: I said to 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz: "If only you would change these silver dirhams, for they fall into the hands of the Jew, the Christian, and the person in a state of janabah?" He replied: "You would like for the nations to argue against us by having us change the tawhid (oneness) of our Lord and the name of our Prophet."
Chapter: A Person in a State of Janabah Sitting in the Mosque
• I heard Ishaq say: "A person in a state of janabah and a menstruating woman may reach for something from the mosque and place it therein, but they may not enter it."
252 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Awza'i say: "It is not for a menstruating woman to traverse the mosque, and as for a person in a state of janabah, there is no harm in him passing through it."
Chapter: A Man Who Experiences Janabah in the Mosque
• I said to Ahmad: A man sleeps in the mosque and experiences janabah? He said: "If he is able to leave and perform ghusl (full ablution), he should leave; otherwise, he may spend the night in the mosque, for perhaps if he were to leave, he might be afflicted by the cold, or some other matter might arise for him that would distress him," and he granted him a concession to sleep in the mosque. It was said: What if he performs tayammum? He said: "It has not reached me [that this is allowed]." And he said: "A delegation came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and they stayed in the mosque."
• I asked Ishaq, saying: May a person in a state of janabah sleep in the mosque? He said: "No, unless he is afflicted by janabah while in the mosque." I said: Should he remain in it? He said: "It is appropriate for him to leave."
253 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Sa'd, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, who said: I saw men from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sitting in the mosque while they were in a state of janabah, [having done so] when they performed the wudu' (ablution) for prayer.
