260 - Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, saying: Marwan Abu Salamah narrated to us, saying: Shahr ibn Hawshab narrated to us, from Abu Umamah, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to wipe over the leather socks and the turban for three days while traveling, and for a day and a night for the resident.
Chapter: Wiping over the Skullcap (Qalansuwah), the Close-fitting Cap (Kummah), and the Turban
• Ishaq ibn Ibrahim was asked about a man who puts on a turban while he is not in a state of ablution; should he wipe over it? He said: "No."
• I asked Ahmad about wiping over the skullcap (qalansuwah)? He said: "He should not wipe over it." I said: Is it not like the turban? He said: "No."
• I asked Ahmad, and I said: Should a man wipe over the close-fitting cap (kummah) just as he wipes over the turban? He said: "No, he should not wipe over the close-fitting cap."
• I asked Ishaq about wiping over the skullcap? He said: "No," and he did not permit it.
261 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, from Sharhabil ibn Muslim, from al-Walid ibn Ayman, who said: I said to Abu al-Darda': I performed ablution, then I put on my turban, then I wanted to perform ablution later, should I wipe over my turban? He said: "Wipe over your turban and your burnous (hooded cloak)."
