281 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Muhajir narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Muhajir, from 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, that he used to wipe over the top and bottom of the leather sock. Muhammad said: "Place your right hand over the back of the leather sock, and the left hand upon its belly [bottom]."
• And I heard Ishaq saying: "If one wipes the top [of the leather sock] and does not wipe its bottom, then repeating it is more beloved to me, without it being definitively clear that repetition is mandatory upon him; because of what has been mentioned in more than one Hadith from al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah that he wiped over the two leather socks, without mentioning in it [the specifics of] their top or their bottom. Therefore, whoever interprets that [generally] and acts upon it, it is not clearly evident that repetition is mandatory upon him."
282 - Al-'Ala' ibn 'Amr al-Hanafi narrated to us, saying: Fudayl narrated to us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan, who said: "The wiping over the two leather socks is [done by] strokes with the fingers."
283 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, saying: Hafs and 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Abd Khayr, from 'Ali, who said: "I used to think that the bottom of the feet were more deserving of being wiped, until I saw the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) wiping over their tops."
