Chapter: Regarding someone who washed their feet and put on their leather socks, then completed the ablution.
• I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal: A man washed his feet and put on his leather socks, then completed his ablution? He said: "No, rather he should perform ablution [completely], then put on his leather socks."
• Ahmad was asked—another time—about a man who washed his feet and put on his leather socks, then walked for a farsakh, then performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks? He said: "It is not permissible," and he disapproved of it. He said: "This is contrary to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger; Allah the Almighty said: {When you rise to prayer, wash your faces and your hands to the elbows}." The Hadith of Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', was mentioned, and he said: "What is narrated from 'Ata' is the separation of the ablution [performing parts of it at different times]." And I think I heard him say: "Verily, the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) put his feet into the leather socks while they were pure by virtue of a complete ablution."
• Ishaq was asked about a man who washed his feet and put on his leather socks, then performed ablution? He said: "It is not permissible, unless he removes the leather sock."
284 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, saying: It was said to Abu 'Amr: A man washed his feet, then put on his leather socks, then performed ablution? He said: "He has contradicted the Sunnah, yet his ablution suffices him."
285 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Nafi', from Malik ibn Anas, who said: "Only he may wipe over the two leather socks who has inserted his feet into the leather socks while they were pure by virtue of the purity of the ablution."
