Abu Ya'qub said: "And if he does not wipe with dust or a rag, it is sufficient for him, because wiping it with dust or a rag is not a unanimously agreed-upon method of purification. If it were so, then if he neglected to do it, repetition [of the prayer] would be incumbent upon him."
• I heard Ishaq say: "The menstruating woman, the woman experiencing postpartum bleeding, and the one without wudu are the same regarding tayammum when they do not find water."
382 - Mahmud narrated to us, saying: Al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Al-Muthanna ibn al-Sabah informed us, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—that a man came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am a man who stays in the desert, and we are afflicted by janaba, and the menstruating woman and the woman in postpartum bleeding [are among us], and we do not find water for four or five months?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "You must use the earth," meaning: tayammum.
383 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, saying: Hisham narrated to us, from al-Hasan—regarding a woman who becomes pure during travel and does not have water with her—he said: "She should perform tayammum and pray, and her husband may have intercourse with her."
Chapter: Entering the bathhouse without an izar (waist wrapper)
• I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal, saying: A man enters a bathhouse, and there are people inside who are not wearing waist wrappers? He said: "No," and he disliked it intensely.
384 - 'Isa ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Asim narrated to us, from Mansur ibn Dinar, who said: I asked Nafi' about a man who enters the bathhouse without an izar? He said: 'Abdullah [ibn 'Umar] said: "It is haram (forbidden)."
