Volume 1 · Page 157Chapter: Reciting (Quran) in the public bath

Translation · EN

385 - 'Isa narrated to us, saying: Rawh narrated to us, from al-Thawri, from Dithar, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: "Entering the bathhouse without an izar is haram (forbidden)."

• I asked Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, saying: A man enters the bathhouse, and the bathhouse attendant depilates him? He said: "I dislike it, especially the private parts."

Chapter: Recitation in the Bathhouse

• I said to Ahmad: What about reciting [the Qur'an] in the bathhouse? He said: "The bathhouse was not built for recitation," and it was as if he disliked that. I said: "Then he mentions Allah?" He granted a concession for that.

• Ishaq was asked about reciting in the bathhouse? He said: "He should not recite," and he mentioned the hadith of 'Ali: "Do not recite a verse of the Qur'an in it."

386 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Rawwad ibn al-Jarrah informed us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Amr al-Awza'i, from Makhul, that he disliked reciting in the bathhouse.

387 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Al-Nadr ibn Shumayl informed us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Sayyar, who said: I heard Abu Wa'il say: "One should not recite in the bathhouse."

• I said to Ishaq: A man entered the bathhouse, bathed, and the water was flowing over his body, then he performed wudu, but he does not see the mark of the wudu on his body due to the water that is already upon him? He said: "The bathing suffices for the wudu."
