• I heard Ishaq say: "If a man wishes to bathe in a river, or he is in a valley, or something similar, or in ponds or basins, then if he wears a waist-wrapper (izar) from his navel to his knee, it is better; because of what al-Hasan and al-Husayn said—and they had entered the water while wearing two wraps—they said: 'The water has inhabitants,' and this is the best of ways."
397 - Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, saying: Sharik informed us, from Abu Farwah, who said: I saw 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla enter the Euphrates, and he called for a waist-wrapper, then said: "The water has inhabitants."
398 - 'Isa ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: 'Uthman ibn 'Umar narrated to us, from Usamah ibn Zayd, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar, that he would not enter a cistern or anything else unless he was wearing a waist-wrapper.
• I heard Ishaq also say: "If he does not enter with a waist-wrapper and strips naked in the water such that he covers his 'awrah (private parts) with the water, we hope that he is not sinful in his action; because of what is authentically reported that Musa (peace be upon him) used to bathe alone, and the Children of Israel would also bathe, so they remarked among themselves that Musa (peace be upon him) only refrains from bathing with us because he has a scrotal hernia (aadar). So he entered one day and placed his garment, and the wind came, and Musa (peace be upon him) went out chasing his garment while calling out: 'O stone, my garment! O stone, my garment!' until the Children of Israel saw him naked, as Allah wanted to clarify to them that what they said was not as they claimed. That is the word of Allah (the Exalted): {Do not be like those who harmed Musa, then Allah cleared him of what they said}. Thus, in this is an indication that he used to enter the water and cover himself with nothing but the water."
