410 - Al-Walid said: I mentioned that to Malik ibn Anas, Abu 'Amr, and Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz. They said: 'We have not seen anyone among those we encountered who would trim their mustaches (ihfa'), but rather they would distinguish them along the lip.'
411 - Al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, who said: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz was asked: 'What is the Sunnah regarding clipping the mustache?' He said: 'One should clip it until the edge of the lip becomes apparent, and cut off the excess of the mustache if it reaches the beard.'
Chapter: Plucking the Mustache with Tweezers, and Plucking the Underarm Hair
• I asked Ishaq about a man who plucks his mustache with tweezers? He said: 'Clipping the mustache is more beloved to me.'
• I said to Ishaq: 'Is plucking the underarm hair more beloved to you, or using depilatory cream (tanawwur)?' He said: 'He should pluck it if he is able.'
• And I heard Ishaq saying: 'It used to be said: There are ten things from the Sunnah: rinsing the mouth, inhaling water into the nose, using the miswak, parting the hair, clipping the nails, clipping the mustache, plucking the underarm hair, shaving the pubic area, circumcision, and cleaning with water (istinja').'
412 - Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Waki' informed us, from Zakariya ibn Abi Za'idah, from Mus'ab ibn Shaybah, from Talq ibn Habib, from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, from 'A'ishah, Mother of the Believers—may Allah be pleased with her—from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: 'Ten are of the natural disposition (fitrah): clipping the mustache, clipping the nails, washing the knuckles, letting the beard grow, using the miswak, inhaling water into the nose, plucking the underarm hair, shaving the pubic area, and cleaning with water.' Mus'ab said: 'And I forgot the tenth, unless it is rinsing the mouth.'
