- Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, saying: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, saying: Ibn Lahi'ah informed me, from Yunus, from al-Zuhri, that he used to say: "The iqamah is [performed] once [for each phrase], except for his saying: 'The prayer has been established'."
- Ibn Lahi'ah said: I asked 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah about that? He said: "He says: 'The prayer has been established' twice."
- al-Walid said: I asked al-Layth ibn Sa'd, and he informed me from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar, that he used to perform the iqamah of 'The prayer has been established' twice.
- al-Walid said: Sa'id informed me, from Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu Qilabah al-Jarmi, from Anas ibn Malik: "Bilal was commanded to perform the adhan in pairs and the iqamah singularly."
- al-Walid said: Hariz ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, from Rashid ibn Sa'd, from Abu Hayy—the muezzin of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khalid ibn al-Walid—that he used to perform the iqamah singularly.
- al-Walid said: And Isma'il said: I heard Yahya ibn Sa'id calling the adhan, so he would perform the adhan in pairs, and the iqamah singularly.
- al-Walid said: Ibrahim ibn Muhammad informed me, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from his father, who said: "Ibn 'Umar sent word to his muezzin to make the adhan in pairs and the iqamah once, once; so that the adhan may be distinguished from the iqamah."
