Chapter: The Adhan While Mounted on a Riding Animal

• Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked about the adhan while mounted on a riding animal? He said: "I hope [there is no harm in it]."

• And I asked Ishaq about the adhan while mounted on a riding animal? He said: "There is no harm in it, but he should perform the iqamah while on the ground."

479 - Shadh ibn Fayyad narrated to us, saying: Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us, from Nusayr ibn Dhu'luq, who said: I saw Ibn 'Umar calling the adhan while on his riding animal.

480 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: al-Walid narrated to us, saying: I asked Abu 'Amr about the rider calling the adhan? He said: "Yes." I said: "Should he perform the iqamah [while mounted]?" He said: "No."

481 - Hisham ibn 'Abd al-Malik al-Himsi narrated to us, saying: Baqiyyah narrated to us, saying: I asked Muhammad ibn 'Ajlan, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, and Malik ibn Anas about a man who is traveling; should he call the adhan and perform the iqamah while he is on his riding animal? They all said: "He should call the adhan while on his riding animal, and perform the iqamah while on the ground."

482 - al-Himmani narrated to us, saying: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', that he disliked for the muezzin to call the adhan while sitting.
