• And I heard Ahmad, on another occasion, when asked about a man who calls the adhan for Fajr at night, say: "There is no harm in it."
• And I heard Ishaq say: "The adhan for all prayers is not to be called until their time has arrived, except for Fajr, for it is Sunnah to call its adhan at night."
486 - Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb ibn Harb narrated to us, saying: Malik ibn Anas said: "The adhan at night has always been the practice among us."
487 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from his father, from Abu 'Uthman, from Ibn Mas'ud, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said: "Bilal calls the adhan at night, so that he may awaken your sleepers and cause your those who are standing (in prayer) to return."
488 - 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr al-Humaydi narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Al-Zuhri narrated to us, from Salim ibn 'Abd Allah, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Bilal calls the adhan at night, so eat and drink until you hear the adhan of Ibn Umm Maktum."
