Chapter: Regarding One Who Forgets the Adhan and the Iqamah

• Ahmad was asked—another time—if one forgets the adhan and the iqamah while traveling and then prays; he said: "It suffices him." I asked: "What if he is at home?" He said: "'Abd Allah [ibn Mas'ud] prayed with 'Alqamah and al-Aswad without adhan or iqamah, though how excellent the iqamah and the adhan are."

• And I heard Ishaq say: "The iqamah suffices you while traveling, except for the dawn prayer; for he should perform the adhan and pray the two rak'ahs, then perform the iqamah and pray the dawn [prayer]. If you forgot and prayed without adhan or iqamah, your prayer is sufficient—if Allah wills."

493 - Ibn Abi Hazm narrated to us, saying: Na'il ibn Najih narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Aqram narrated to us, from Mughirah, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, that Ibn Mas'ud prayed with 'Alqamah in his house without adhan or iqamah.

494 - 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Dahhak narrated to us, saying: Isma'il narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar, from Nafi', that Ibn 'Umar, when he traveled, would not call the adhan, but would perform the iqamah for all the prayers, except for the dawn; for he would call the adhan for it and perform the iqamah, while he would pray the other prayers with an iqamah without an adhan.
