Book of Menstruation
Abu al-Qasim said: Harb narrated to me from this Book of Menstruation, which is what was stated by Ahmad and Ishaq, and he authorized the hadiths for me and said: "Narrate it from me," meaning the hadiths.
Chapter: The Minimum and Maximum of Menstruation
Harb narrated to me, he said: I asked Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal, I said: How much is the minimum of menstruation? He said: "As for what I choose, its minimum is a day and a night." I said: And how much is its maximum? He said: "Fifteen days." I said: Can it not be more than fifteen? He said: "No."
And I heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim say: "Ata' said: 'Menstruation is one day.'"
Ishaq said: "And it was mentioned regarding Bakr ibn Abd Allah al-Muzani that he said: 'My wife menstruates for two days.'"
And I also heard Ishaq say: "It has been authentically reported in our time from more than one woman that she said: 'My menstruation is two days.' A well-known woman from our family said: 'I have not broken my fast during Ramadan for twenty years, except for two days.' In such an account, the report of a righteous man is sufficient regarding a righteous woman who is not accused of falsehood; she informs about her own menstruation herself."
And I asked Ali ibn Abd Allah, I said: How much is the minimum of menstruation and how much is its maximum? He said: "We do not set any time limit for menstruation."
532/2 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: I heard Muhammad ibn Kathir, from al-Awza'i, who said: "There was a woman here in Beirut who would sit for one day during her menstruation, then become pure, and she would sit for three days during postpartum bleeding, then become pure."
(1) In the original, it is unpointed and marked; (perhaps the correct reading is "shay'an"), and the scribe placed a mark of omission above the words "in menstruation". Note: What is between the brackets is what the editor added to what was in the printed edition. (2) This number was repeated in the printed edition by mistake, and the editor corrected it here by adding the number (/2) to indicate that it is a repetition.
