- Muhammad ibn al-Wazir al-Dimashqi narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: Musa ibn A'yan and Ibrahim ibn Muhammad said: "A virgin and non-virgin menstruates for a day or two, then the blood ceases for her, less than three days; it is not menstruation. She performs ghusl (full ablution) and prays the prayer of those two days." They both said: "If she sees blood for three consecutive days, then it is menstruation. If it exceeds ten days, she is a woman suffering from istihaḍah."
- 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: al-Awza'i said: "Every woman who sees a single day of fresh blood—a drop or more—between the menstrual periods during her state of purity, she performs ghusl and prays, unless her menstruation has hastened toward her. Every yellowness or murkiness a woman sees between the periods during her state of purity, she performs wudu (ablution) and prays."
- Al-Walid said: I mentioned that to Musa ibn A'yan, so he said: "As for us, we say: any blood she sees between the periods, she abstains from prayer on her day, the second, and the third. If it ceases before the completion of the third day, it is 'tariyyah' (new/fresh blood), not menstruation; she performs ghusl and prays the prayer of those days. If it does not cease for her until she completes three days or more, then it is a hastened menstruation; she abstains from prayer until she sees purity."
- Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: I heard Malik ibn Anas, Musa ibn A'yan, and Ibrahim ibn Muhammad saying: "The time for the menstruating woman is ten days, unless she sees purity before that, in which case she performs ghusl and prays. If she exceeds ten days before she sees purity, then she is a woman suffering from istihaḍah."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct reading is: "daman 'abitan" (fresh blood).
