Chapter: Wine and Intoxicants Coming into Contact with Clothing

• Ishaq was asked about a man who prayed while there was a drop of wine on his garment. He said: "His prayer is valid."

• I said to Ishaq: "A man drank a purgative medicine, and he applied a topical preparation (lakhlakha) to his head." He said: "What is disliked is for a man to perfume his body [excessively], but as for a small amount that he places on his stomach or head, there is no harm in it." I said: "What if it is treated with an intoxicant?" He said: "Everything that is treated with an intoxicant..."

• I said to Ishaq—on one occasion: "What if an intoxicant is placed upon clothing?" He said: "He must repeat the prayer, because its ruling in my view is the same as the ruling on wine."

• I asked him about perfume (naduh) made from raisins, which is left until it boils and then [scents] are added to it. He said: "You must repeat the prayer if you have applied some of that to your head, or if any of it has touched you." It was said: "What if it was added while it was still sweet, then it fermented within it?" He said: "This has exited the boundary of a beverage."

53 - Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, saying: Harish informed me, saying: Talhah saw the mosque had been sprinkled with perfume, so he said: "Who sprinkled wine in our mosque?"
