590 - Abu 'Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: 'Asim al-Ahwal narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, who said: My wife sent to Qamir - the wife of Masruq - and she mentioned that she narrated to her from 'A'ishah, the Mother of the Believers, that she said: "The woman experiencing istihada performs one ghusl every day."
591 - Hannad ibn al-Sari narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, from Sumay, who said: I asked Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib about the woman experiencing istihada, how should she perform ghusl? He said: "She performs ghusl from one period of purity to the next, and performs wudu' for every prayer, and if the blood overcomes her, she should bind herself (istathfarat)."
Chapter: When the Menstrual Period Exceeds its Days
592 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Makhlad narrated to us, saying: Al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman informed me, from his father, who said: I said to Muhammad ibn Sirin: A woman menstruates, then it exceeds that by five days? He said: "She should pray." I said: Four days? He said: "She should pray." I said: Three days? He said: "She should pray." I said: Two days? He said: "That is her menstruation."
(1) It appears that there is an omission in this chain; Ibn Abi Shaybah (8956) recorded it from al-Mu'tamir, from his father, who said: I asked Ibn Sirin about a woman whose menstrual period is known for a specific number of days, then it exceeds that? He said: "Women know better about that." He said: And I asked Qatada, I said: A woman menstruates... [and he continued] with it, similar to the chain of Harb. This is supported by the fact that Ishaq followed up on the statement of Ibn Sirin: "Women know better about that" in what follows.
