603 - 'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-'Azim narrated to us, saying: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi say: "If a woman sees brownish or yellow discharge connected to the blood of menstruation, then that is from the remnants of the menstruation. If she sees purity, then sees brownish or yellow discharge after that, then it is nothing." 'Abd al-Rahman said: "This is something on which the scholars do not disagree."
604 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from al-Awza'i, from Rabi'ah and Yahya ibn Sa'id, [who] said: "Yellow and brownish discharge during the days of menstruation is menstruation, until she leaves off prayer. If she completes her days, and the blood continues, or yellow or brownish discharge [continues], then it is istihada (irregular vaginal bleeding); she performs ghusl (full ablution) and prays. If the blood, or yellow or brownish discharge ceases upon the completion of her days, she performs ghusl and prays. If the blood, or brownish or yellow discharge returns to her after that, then it is istihada."
605 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Amr al-Awza'i narrated to us, from Rabi'ah and Yahya ibn Sa'id, [who] said—regarding the woman who menstruates during her days for a day or two, then sees clear purity, performs ghusl and prays, then yellow or brownish discharge returns to her during the remainder of the menstrual cycle, and she refrains from prayer; what is the yellow discharge during the remainder of the menstrual cycle?—they said: "If the blood, yellow discharge, and brownish discharge continue with her until she completes her days, and she does not see purity, she adopts the precaution (istizhar) of a day or two, then acts as one who has istihada acts."
606 - He said: And al-Walid narrated to us, saying: It was said to Abu 'Amr: What do you see if a woman sees clear purity upon the completion of her menstrual cycle, performs ghusl and prays, then it returns to her on that same day or the following day? He said: "That is a discharge (tarriyah). If it is fresh blood, she performs ghusl and prays. If it is brownish or yellow discharge, she performs wudu (ablution) and prays. She does not have [the right] to adopt the precaution of a day or two and leave off prayer during them—as she would adopt the precaution if the blood were prolonged and she did not see purity upon the completion of her cycle."
