610 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash informed us, saying: Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from al-Harith, from 'Ali, who said: "If a woman sees after her purity something like the washing of meat—as long as it is not blood—then she should sprinkle it with water, use a pad (ihtashi), and pray; for it is only a disturbance (rakdah) from Satan in the womb."
611 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Jarir informed us, from al-Mughirah, from Ibrahim, who said: "If what flows from her is like the washing of meat, and it is red, she must perform ghusl (full ablution). If it is not red, she performs wudu' (ablution) and prays, unless it is during her days of menstruation, for then she is in the same status as a menstruating woman."
I heard Ishaq—another time—say: "The explanation of what we described from 'A'ishah, Umm 'Atiyyah, and those we mentioned from the successors (tabi'in) and those after them regarding yellow and brownish discharge is what al-Awza'i clarified from Rabi'ah and Yahya ibn Sa'id: If a woman sees yellow or brownish discharge during her known menstrual cycles, then that is menstruation. Sometimes a woman's natural state regarding her menstrual blood is thinner than others, and this is why they said: Discharge during the days of menstruation is menstruation. They did not consider that to be the case after the days of her menstrual cycles. Thus, most of the people of knowledge held the view that she should perform ghusl and pray, and not count the discharge as anything, meaning: after the days of her menstruation."
(1) Thus it appears in the original, and the correct form is "wa-li-tahtashi" (and she should use a pad).
