Chapter: A woman who menstruates at the beginning of the time [of prayer]

• And I heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim say: "If a woman menstruates at the beginning of the time of a prayer, she is required to make it up according to the scholars, because the obligation had already become binding upon her at the beginning of the time; therefore, she must make it up. But if she menstruates while there remains of the time only what would not be sufficient for her to pray—even if she had prayed—until menstruation overtook her, then she is not required to make it up."

635 - Abbas ibn Abd al-Azim narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu al-Walid say: Sufyan al-Thawri was asked about a woman whose time [for prayer] had entered, and then she menstruated. He said: "The first prayer she performs [upon becoming pure] will be a qada' (make-up) prayer." Al-Qasim ibn Ma'n said to him: "O Abu Abd Allah, what do you say about a man whose time [for prayer] has entered, then he departs on a journey; how much does he pray?" He replied: "Two rak'ahs." He then realized what he had fallen into and said: "This is how they draw analogies (qiyas)."

636 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan informed us, from Ibn Shubruma, who said: I asked al-Sha'bi about a woman for whom the mu'adhdhin had called the adhan and the people had prayed, but she menstruated and did not pray. He said: "When she becomes pure, she should make the first prayer she performs a qada' prayer."

637 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Sufyan ibn 'Uyayna informed us, from Ibn Shubruma, from al-Sha'bi, who said: "If the time for prayer enters and she menstruates before she prays, then when she becomes pure, she should pray it until (1) she becomes pure."
