643 - Abu Ma'n narrated to us, saying: Ghundar narrated to us, saying: Sa'id narrated to us, from 'Aqabah al-Rasibi, from Abu al-Jawza', that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab—may Allah be pleased with him—said to the women: "Do not sleep before the 'Atamah (night) prayer, for fear that you might menstruate."
644 - Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, saying: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, from Abu 'Uthman al-Sarraj, from al-Awza'i—and he was asked about a woman who prays two rak'ahs and then menstruates—he said: "If menstruation overtakes her during the prayer, she departs [from it], and there is nothing upon her."
Chapter: She becomes pure before the setting of the sun
I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and I said: A woman who becomes pure before the setting of the sun? He said: "She performs the Dhuhr and the 'Asr [prayers]." I said: What if she becomes pure before the rising of the dawn? He said: "She performs the Maghrib and the 'Isha' [prayers]."
And I heard Ishaq say: "As for that which we rely upon, and which is [the view of] the majority of the scholars among the Companions of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and those after them: if she becomes pure before the setting of the sun, she performs the Dhuhr and the 'Asr together, and if she becomes pure before the rising of the dawn, she performs the Maghrib and the 'Isha' together."
And I heard Ishaq—another time—say: "The scholars have differed regarding the make-up prayers of the menstruating woman if she becomes pure during the time of a prayer (1):
