Volume 1 · Page 270Chapter: A menstruating woman is not required to make up for missed prayers

Translation · EN

656 - Al-Walid said - and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Wahid told me on his authority -: "She may perform tayammum and hasten [to pray]."

657 - Al-Walid said: I asked Malik ibn Anas and al-Layth ibn Sa'd about the statement of Abu 'Amr - regarding the tayammum of one who fears the sunrise or sunset - and they did not recognize it. They said: "There is no concession for tayammum for anyone who finds water."

658 - Al-Walid said: I do not recall but that I asked Ibn Abi Dhi'b and Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, and they said the same.

Chapter: A menstruating woman is not obligated to make up prayers

• I heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim say: "The Sunnah has passed from the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his Companions after him that a menstruating woman does not make up the prayer, but she does make up the fast, and the consensus of the people of knowledge is upon that."

659 - Ishaq narrated to us, he said: 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, he said: Sa'id ibn Abi 'Aruba narrated to us, from Qatada, from Mu'adha al-'Adawiyya, that a woman said to 'A'isha - may Allah be pleased with her -: "Does a woman who menstruates make up the prayer when she becomes pure?" She replied: "Are you a Haruriyya (Kharijite)? We used to menstruate during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, then we would become pure, and we would not make up the prayer."

Chapter: Clarification of the white discharge (al-qassa al-bayda')

660 - I heard Abu 'Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal, he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Malik, from 'Alqama, from his mother, that women used to send a small container containing traces of yellow discharge to 'A'isha, and she would say: "Do not pray until you see the white discharge."
