Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 271Chapter: Untying the hair when performing ghusl from menstruation

Translation · EN

• Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: "The qassa (white discharge) is a white fluid that follows the menses at its end."

661 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: Bishr ibn 'Umar narrated to us, he said: I said to Malik ibn Anas: What is the white discharge? He said: "A white substance that women see as a sign of purity."

662 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us... [1] ...'Abd al-Rahman ibn Maysara, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Dhu'ayb, from 'A'isha, she said: "Purity is when the woman sees, after the blood, a distinctly white fluid."

Chapter: Unbraiding the hair when performing ghusl from menstruation

• I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal, I said: Should a woman unbraid her hair for janaba (major ritual impurity)? He said: "No, provided she moistens the roots of the hair." Then he said: "[Look to] the hadith of Umm Salama, unless she has performed ghusl from menstruation; for in that case, she unbraids all of her hair." Then he added: "Menstruation is more severe than janaba, because the one in a state of janaba performs ghusl and becomes pure, whereas the menstruating woman is not made pure by the ghusl," meaning: until the blood ceases from her.

663 - Zayd ibn Yazid narrated to us, he said: Abu 'Amir narrated to us, he said: Zam'a ibn Salih narrated to us, from Ibn Tawus, from his father, he said: "The menstruating woman unbraids her hair when she performs ghusl, but in the case of janaba, she does not, rather she just wets her hair thoroughly."
