Volume 1 · Page 285

• And I heard Ishaq—another time—saying: "If a speaker asks: 'How can one give in charity a dinar or half a dinar?'—and he said once: 'two-fifths of a dinar'—it is said to him: 'You have in the hadith of Ibn 'Uyaynah the explanation for what you asked, as he said: "If the blood is fresh, then a dinar; if it contains yellow discharge, then half a dinar; and two-fifths of a dinar, depending on the thinness or thickness of the blood, and its proximity to or distance from purity. One who does not err and is not forgetful distinguished between them. So whoever turns away from this authentic Sunnah, which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) established regarding having intercourse with a menstruating woman, has stumbled and erred. It is incumbent upon a Muslim, when something like this or similar reaches him from the Messenger and his Companions after him, to accept it with a good reception.' Allah, the Exalted, said: {It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair}. Expiations for sins are easier than sins that have no expiation, for if a man is destitute and cannot find the expiation he was commanded with, then Allah excuses those with a valid excuse, and Allah said: {Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity}, meaning: its ability."

697 - Hudba ibn Khalid narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn al-Ja'd al-Hudhali narrated to us, saying: Qatadah narrated to us, saying: al-Hakam ibn 'Utaybah narrated to us, that 'Abd al-Hamid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to him, that Miqsam narrated to him, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that a man came to him and claimed that he had intercourse with his wife while she was menstruating, so the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded him to give a dinar in charity, and if he could not find that, then half a dinar.
