711 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Jarir informed us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from 'A'ishah—may Allah be pleased with her—who said: "When one of us would menstruate, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would order her to wear an izar (waist wrapper), then he would fondle her."
712 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Waki' informed us, from Sufyan, from Ghaylan, from Umm al-Hakam, who said: "There is no harm in him placing it upon her private part, as long as he does not insert it."
Chapter: A menstruating woman puts her hand into food, and other such things
• I asked Ahmad, saying: A menstruating woman puts her hand into food, drink, and vinegar, kneads dough, and other such things? He said: "Yes."
• And I heard Ishaq say: "Menstruating women have always kneaded dough, washed, and worked in their homes. Menstruation does not prevent them from that, and in all their affairs, they are as we are, except for sexual intercourse and prayer. Their husbands have always slept in the same bed with them, fondled them, and enjoyed them, excluding intercourse itself."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct reading is: "from al-Hakam, he said." (2) Thus it is in the original, and perhaps the correct reading is: "and wash (clothes/dishes)." (3) Thus it is in the original, and the appropriate reading is: "and they enjoy."
