Chapter: The Menstruating Woman Performs Tasbih (Glorification) and Remembers Allah—the Exalted—
• I heard Ishaq say: "If a menstruating woman wishes to purify herself at the time of prayer for the purpose of tasbih and dhikr (remembrance), not for the prayer, then that is permissible for her. She may perform tasbih and remember Allah, but she may not recite any of the Qur'an, neither a small amount nor a large amount—meaning by that, recitation. And if she hears the [verse of] prostration while she is menstruating, she is not required to make it up once she becomes pure; just as she does not pray while she is menstruating, for [missing] the prayer is a greater offense."
724 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: 'Isa ibn Yunus informed us, from Muhammad ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu Salih, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "The person in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity) and the menstruating woman may remember Allah, but they may not recite any of the Qur'an." It was asked: "Not even a verse?" He replied: "Not even half a verse."
725 - Abu Ma'n narrated to us, saying: Khalid ibn al-Harith narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman narrated to us, from 'Ata', who said: "The menstruating woman should not recite anything except the tip of a verse, but she should perform wudu (ablution) at the time of every prayer, face the Qiblah, and perform tasbih and takbir (magnification of Allah)."
726 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from his father: I said to Abu Qilabah: "Does the menstruating woman, upon hearing the adhan (call to prayer), perform ablution and perform tasbih for the duration she used to pray?" He replied: "We have asked about this, but we have found no basis for it."
