Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 300Chapter: The Menstruating Woman Dyeing Her Hands (with Henna)

Translation · EN

As for the work of a menstruating woman and their physical contact with men while washing their heads and other such acts, there is no harm in that, and 'Aishah has explained that as we have described. The wives of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would comb his hair while they were menstruating, and in the Prophet's saying: "Indeed, her menstruation is not in her hand," is the clarification of what we have described. Likewise, her placing an item in the mosque and removing it is unobjectionable, provided that she does not enter her entire body into the mosque, whether it be private houses of prayer or congregational mosques. It is disliked for them to pass through the mosque unless there is a need, just as the person in a state of janabah has a need for it in order to fetch water for his or her ritual bath (ghusl) or similar purposes. It is not appropriate for her to pass through the mosque without a need, for that is like her entering it and sitting in it; the ruling for the menstruating woman and the person in a state of janabah is the same in that regard.

730 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Jarir informed us, from al-'Ala' ibn al-Musayyab, who said: I asked Hammad: "Does a menstruating woman wash her clothes from her sweat?" He said: "No, only the Magians do that."

Chapter: The Menstruating Woman Applying Henna to Her Hands

• I asked Ahmad, I said: "May a menstruating woman apply henna to her hands?" He said: "Yes."

• And I heard Ishaq say: "As for her applying henna during the days of her menstruation, there is no harm in that; it is an established sunnah from the wives of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and those who came after them from the people of knowledge."

Notes

(1) Thus it is in the original, and perhaps the correct reading is: "their heads."

Notes
