733 - Ahmad ibn Nasr narrated to us, saying: Habban ibn Musa narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak was asked about a menstruating woman who becomes pure at night, but there is not enough of the night remaining for her to perform ghusl (full ablution) until dawn reaches her? He said: "Her fasting is valid."
And Abdullah was asked: May a menstruating woman read a booklet? He granted permission for that. It was said: What if there are verses of the Qur’an in the booklet? He said: "If she does not place her hand on that spot, there is no harm."
734 - And I asked him about a woman in postpartum bleeding who sees purity at twenty [days], then sees blood after fifteen [days]? He said: "Sufyan says: She remains in a state of postpartum bleeding as long as she is within the forty [days]."
735 - And Abdullah said: "If she becomes pure at night, then morning comes, and she does not know at what part of the night she became pure, nor how much of the night remained for her, then she must repeat the fast and perform the Isha prayer. If she becomes pure and there is enough [time] for her to perform ghusl, yet she does not perform ghusl, then her fasting is valid."
And Abdullah said: "Whenever a prayer time comes upon her while she is pure, she must perform ghusl."
And he said: "If she sees purity after sunrise, she may wait—if she wishes—until the time between it and the Dhuhr prayer."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct reading is "qala" (he said).
