749 - Ahmad ibn Nasr narrated to us, saying: 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, saying: Ibn al-Mubarak said: I said to Ibn Lahi'ah: What does "for every gesture" mean? He said: "When he begins the prayer he raises his hands, when he bows he raises his hands, and when he raises his head from bowing he raises his hands."
Ahmad ibn Nasr said: "I counted this, and it results in being written for him in the five prayers: four thousand rewards, less one hundred rewards."
Chapter: To where should a woman raise her hands?
Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked: How should a woman raise her hands in prayer? He remained silent, as if he did not like to answer that. He was told: What about the hadith of 'Abd Rabbih ibn Zaytun, from Umm al-Darda'? He said: "Did Ibn 'Ayyash narrate it?" It was said: Yes. So he remained silent.
And I asked Ishaq, I said: How should a woman raise her hands in prayer? He said: "She should raise them to the breasts." I said: Does she raise her hands when she bows, and when she raises her head from bowing? He said: "Yes, firmly."
