779 - Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Abu Mu'awiyah informed us, he said: Harithah narrated to us, from 'Amrah, from 'Aishah, the Mother of the Believers, who said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) opened the prayer, he would say: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabaraka ismuka, wa ta'ala jadduka' (Glory is to You, O Allah, and with Your praise, blessed is Your name, exalted is Your majesty)."
• I also heard Ishaq say: "When you open the prayer, say: 'Wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhi fatara as-samawati wal-arda hanifan wa ma ana min al-mushrikin' (I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of the polytheists) up to the end of the verse. It is more beloved to me than 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika...', because that is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). If one combines both of them together, it is more beloved to me because of what was mentioned in the Hadith of the Egyptians, from the Hadith of al-Layth ibn Sa'd, from Sa'id ibn Yazid, from al-A'raj, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Rafi', from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he combined them both."
• Abu Muhammad Harb said: "The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this Hadith, 'and evil is not to You' (wal-sharru laysa ilayk), its meaning to me—if Allah wills—is: one does not seek to draw near to You by it. This is also what reached me from al-Nadr ibn Shumayl."
