Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 343Chapter: Recitation in the Dawn prayer (Subh) on Friday

Translation · EN

• I asked Ishaq, saying: 'A man has a [daily] wird (prescribed portion of the Quran) in the month of Ramadan or otherwise; may he recite from his wird during the obligatory prayer?' He disliked that and said: 'No, because the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is contrary to that,' and he mentioned the recitation of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the obligatory prayers.

819 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Jarir informed us, from Hamzah al-Zayyat, that 'Amr ibn Murrah al-Jamali used to recite following the arrangement [of the Quran] starting from where his wird ended in the obligatory prayers.

Chapter: Recitation in the Morning Prayer on Friday

• I said to Ahmad: 'Is it recommended for a person to recite on Friday in the dawn prayer (Ghadah): {Alif-Lam-Mim. The revelation...} [Surat al-Sajdah], and: {Has there [not] come upon man a period of time...} [Surat al-Insan]?' It was as if he did not like it [to be done consistently] except once in a while.

• And I heard Ishaq saying: 'There is no harm in the Imam reciting in the obligatory prayer a surah that contains a prostration (sajdah), and the most beloved of the surahs to us is {Alif-Lam-Mim. The revelation...} [Surat al-Sajdah] because of what the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite in the dawn prayer on Friday: {Alif-Lam-Mim. The revelation...} and: {Has there [not] come upon man a period of time...}. He would recite them on Friday, but he would not persist in them every Friday, making it a habit. Rather, he would recite them and recite others at times. And if he were to persist in them, it would be permissible. We only disliked persisting in them in this time of ours due to the abundance of the ignorant, for many people might get confused by that and claim that on Friday the dawn prayer consists of three rak'ahs, or that a prostration is added to it, or claims similar to that. Even though this is baseless, if one ceases to persist in them, this notion also disappears from the ignorant person.'
