835 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: Abu Shihab narrated to us, from al-'Ala' ibn al-Musayyab, from Talut, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "For me to recite al-Baqarah in one night is more beloved to me than for me to recite the entire Quran in one night."
836 - Abbas ibn 'Abd al-'Azim narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, saying: Ma'mar narrated to us, from Hammam ibn Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah - may Allah be pleased with him - who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The Quran was made light for David; he would order his beasts to be saddled, and he would recite the Quran before they were saddled. And he would not eat except from the work of his own hands."
Chapter: Concerning One Who Recites the Fatihah of the Book and a Verse With It, and One Who Leaves the Recitation of the Fatihah of the Book
• It was said to Ahmad: [What if] a man recites the Fatihah of the Book and one verse in the prayer? He said: "If it is a long verse, such as the Verse of Debt [Ayat al-Dayn]."
• And I heard Ishaq say: "As for voluntary prayer, recite in every rak'ah the Fatihah of the Book and a surah with it, or the Fatihah of the Book alone—if you wish to do so—for it is sufficient. As for the prescribed [obligatory] prayer, [406] do not ever leave out adding [to the Fatihah], even if it is [just] a verse along with the Fatihah of the Book. If you recite the Fatihah of the Book and do not recite anything with it, it suffices you, but do not do that intentionally. And if you recite a surah and do not recite the Fatihah of the Book with it, it does not suffice you, because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 'There is no prayer for one who does not recite the Mother of the Book in it.'"
