Chapter: Spittle Containing Blood

• It was said to Ahmad: A man spits, and some of it is blood and some is spittle? He said: "If it is excessive, he must repeat [the wudu]." It was said: How much is considered excessive? He said: "What he perceives to be a large amount."

• I asked Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, saying: What do you say regarding one who expectorates fresh blood, does that invalidate his wudu? He said: "[If it is] severe."

• I said to Ishaq: What do you say regarding the redness of blood that appears in spittle, does it invalidate wudu? He said: "If the redness is predominant over the spittle," meaning: he repeats it [the wudu].

91 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Amr said—regarding a man who expectorated and saw blood in his mucus—: "There is nothing upon him, and he may rinse his mouth if he wishes." It was said to him: [What if] he spat and saw blood in his spittle? He said: "If it is flowing, he performs wudu; but if it is mixed with saliva, there is nothing upon him."

92 - Ishaq ibn 'Umar ibn Salit narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, who said: I saw Ibn Abi Awfa expectorate blood, then he prayed and did not perform wudu.

93 - Muhammad ibn Mu'awiyah narrated to us, saying: Sharik narrated to us, from Jabir, from 'Amir, who said: "You do not perform wudu from yellowness that you spit out."

Notes

(1) So it is in the original, and above it is written: "So it is," and in the margin it is written: "Perhaps it is: tanakhkha'a (he expectorated)."

Notes
