877 - Ibn Abi Hazm narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, saying: Ibn Jurayj informed us, saying: Nafi' informed me, from Ibn 'Umar; he used to say 'Amin' when he finished the Mother of the Qur'an (Umm al-Qur'an); he would not fail to say 'Amin' when he concluded it.
Chapter: Counting Verses in Prayer
• And Ahmad was asked about counting verses in prayer? He said: "I hope there is no harm in it."
• And I heard Ishaq say: "The people of knowledge did not see any harm in counting verses in prayer."
878 - Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, saying: Qays narrated to us, from 'Asim, who said: "I saw Abu 'Abd al-Rahman Zirr ibn Hubaysh, Shaqiq, and 'Abd Allah ibn Ma'qil... counting the verses in prayer."
879 - Ahmad ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ghadari narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Yahya ibn 'Atiq, who said: "I saw Tawus and al-Mughirah ibn Hakim counting the verses in prayer."
880 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, saying: Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin, who both said: "There is no harm in counting the verses in prayer."
(1) The copyist left a blank space equivalent to a word, marked it with a correction sign, and wrote in the margin: 'Perhaps it is: ya'uddūn (they count),' which is the correct reading.
