Chapter: Regarding One Who Does Not Maintain the Straightness of His Back (Iqamat al-Sulb) in Prostration and Bowing

I said to Ahmad: "What about a man who does not maintain the straightness of his back in bowing and prostration?" He said: (1).

929 - Abu Sahl Bishr ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, saying: I saw 'Abdullah ibn Tawus raise his hands when he raised his head from prostration, slightly above his knees.

930 - He said: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyub, who said: "I saw Nafi' raise his hands above his knees when he raised his head from prostration."

931 - He said: "And I saw Tawus do the same thing."

932 - Hammad said: "And Ayyub used to do it."

Chapter: Regarding One Who Raises the Toes of His Feet in Prayer

It was said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal: "A man prostrated and raised the tips of his toes off the ground?" He said: "It is narrated that prostration is upon seven members." (2) implying that his prayer is deficient.

933 - 'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-'Azim narrated to us, saying: Al-Fadl narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Qays, from Abu Qays, that Masruq saw a man praying while he had raised his foot, so he said: "His prayer is not complete."

934 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: Hushaym narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn 'Ubaydullah informed us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah - may Allah be pleased with him - who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Prostration is upon seven members: the forehead, the two palms, the two knees, and the two feet."
