Chapter: What One Says Between the Two Prostrations

I heard Ahmad say: "A man says between the two prostrations: 'My Lord, forgive me.'" I said: "In the obligatory prayer and the voluntary prayer?" He said: "Yes."

And it is the school of Ahmad that if he says it, it is permissible, and if he does not say it, it is [also] permissible; the matter for him is broad.

I heard Ahmad say: "(1) [A man says] during his sitting between the two prostrations: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and restore me.' If he wishes, he may say three times: 'My Lord, forgive me'; all of this is permissible."

938 - Abu al-Azhar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, saying: I said to Sufyan: "Does he say this in the obligatory prayer?" He said: "He says in the obligatory prayer: 'O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.'"

939 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Abd al-Majid narrated to us, saying: Khalid al-Hadhdha' narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith, that 'Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—used to say between the two prostrations: "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, restore me, elevate me, and guide me."

940 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Harith, from 'Ali, that he used to say between the two prostrations: "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, restore me, and elevate me."
