Volume 1 · Page 394Chapter: Prostration of the Qur'an; who said it is a Sunnah?

Translation · EN

• It was said to Ahmad: 'And [what about] after the two units of prayer of Fajr, before the prescribed [prayer]?' He saw no harm in it.

• The matter of prostration according to Ahmad is easy; if he wishes, he may prostrate, and if he wishes, he may not prostrate.

• I heard Ishaq say: 'If one reads the [verse requiring] prostration after the Fajr prayer, he should not prostrate until the sun rises. And if he reads it after 'Asr when the sun is leaning towards setting and there does not remain of the sun enough [time] to pray one unit, he should delay that until the sun has set.'

959 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: Hushaym narrated to us, saying: Yunus informed us, from al-Hasan;

960 - And Mughirah informed us, from Ibrahim, who said (1): 'He may prostrate after 'Asr and after Fajr, as long as it is within the time.'

Chapter: Prostration of the Qur'an; Who said: It is a Sunnah?

• I heard Ishaq say: 'The Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the prostration of the Qur'an has passed; the person praying—and others—should not abandon it when he reads it until he prostrates; it is an established Sunnah, without it being an obligation upon the servants, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) established the Witr, the two 'Eids, and things similar to that.'

961 - Ishaq narrated to us, saying: al-Nadr ibn Shumayl informed us, saying: Salih ibn Abi al-Akhdar narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Iyad ibn Khalifah, who said: 'I saw 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) recite [Surat] al-Nahl while he was on the pulpit; he descended, prostrated, then stood up and ascended the pulpit.'

(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct reading is "qala" (they both said).
