• Ahmad was asked: "And does he perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness before the taslim?" He said: "Yes." It was asked: "Based on the hadith?" He said: "Yes."
• And I heard Ahmad—another time—adopting the hadith of Ibn Buhaynah regarding the two prostrations of forgetfulness.
• And I heard Ishaq ibn Ibrahim say: "If the person praying commits an act of forgetfulness, and his forgetfulness is a decrease in the prayer, he performs the two prostrations of forgetfulness before the taslim, just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) did. He stood up after two (rak'ahs) of Dhuhr, so he performed the two prostrations of forgetfulness before the taslim. And Ibn Mas'ud said: 'Everything in the prayer that is a decrease, such as (missing) a bowing, a prostration, or other than that, the two prostrations of forgetfulness are before the taslim. And whatever was an increase, he performs them after the taslim':
992 - 'Attab ibn Bashir reported this to us, from Khusayf, from Abu 'Ubaydah, from Ibn Mas'ud."
993 - Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Quta'i narrated to us, he said: Bishr ibn 'Umar narrated to us, he said: I asked Malik ibn Anas about forgetfulness? He said: "Every forgetfulness that is a decrease in the prayer, its prostration is before the taslim, and every forgetfulness that is an increase in the prayer, its prostration is after the taslim."
994 - Ahmad narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Sa'd ibn Ibrahim, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed Dhuhr as two rak'ahs, then performed the taslim. It was said to him: "Has the prayer been decreased?" So he prayed two more rak'ahs, then performed the taslim, then performed two prostrations.
