Masa'il Harb al-Kirmani: Book of Purification (Taharah) and Prayer (Salah) - Edited by al-Surayyi'
Volume 1 · Page 40Chapter: Water that is not rendered impure by anything

Translation · EN

105 - 'Amr ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, saying: Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Malik ibn Anas—regarding the urine of infants: "The female infant and the male infant are equal; water is to be sprinkled over both as long as they have not eaten [food]," similar to the statement of al-Awza'i.

Chapter: Water that is Not Rendered Impure by Anything

• I heard Abu 'Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal say—regarding water: "If it is two qullat (liters/measures), it does not become impure unless something gets into it that changes its taste or its odor, or if urine or excrement gets into it."

• And I heard Ahmad—another time—when he was asked about the qulla, "How much is it?" He said: "Two qirbas (waterskins) for each qulla." It was said: "Does one perform ablution from the two qullat?" He said: "If its odor and taste have not changed."

It was said: "A man sees water in a collection basin, measuring two qullat; may he perform ablution from it?" He said: "If it is rainwater, then yes, even if it is a little."

• And Ahmad was asked—another time—about a mouse that falls into a well, and it does not change [the water]? [He said:] "If the water is more than two qullat, I hope there is no harm in it."

Notes

(1) Thus it appears in the original, and above it was written: "thus," and it is possible that the correct reading is "al-jabbana" (the open field), see: Lisan al-'Arab (13/85). (2) It is vocalized as such in the original, and it is possible that it is: "tughayyiruhu" (changes it), and perhaps what was omitted after it is: "faqala" (so he said).

Notes
