998 - Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Jarir informed us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqamah, from 'Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed a prayer—Ibrahim said: "I do not know whether he added or decreased [a portion of the prayer]"—and when he performed the taslim, it was said to him: O Messenger of Allah, has something happened in the prayer? He said: "And what is that?" They said: "You prayed such and such." He said: So he folded his legs and faced the qibla, then performed two prostrations, then performed the taslim. When he turned his face toward us, he said: "If something had happened in the prayer, I would have informed you of it. However, I am only a human being; I forget just as you forget. So if I forget, remind me. And if one of you is in doubt regarding his prayer, let him seek what is most likely correct, complete it upon that, then perform the taslim, then perform two prostrations."
٩٩٨ - حدثنا إسحاق، قال: أبنا جَرير، عن مَنصور، عن إبراهيم، عن عَلقَمَة، عن عبد الله، قال: صَلَّى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صَلاةً -قال إبراهيم: «لا أدري أزاد أم نَقَص؟» -، فلَمَّا سَلَّم قيل له: يا رسول الله، أحَدَثَ في الصَّلاة شَيء؟ قال: «وما ذاك؟». قالوا: صَلَّيت كذا وكذا. قال: فثَنَى رِجلَيه، واستَقبَل القِبلَة، فسَجَدَ سَجدَتَين، ثم سَلَّم، فلَمَّا أقبَل عَلَينا بِوَجهِه؛ قال: «إنه لَو حَدَثَ في الصَّلاة شَيءٌ أنبأتكم بِه، ولكن إنما أنا بَشَر؛ أنسَى كما تَنسَون، فإذا نَسيتُ فذَكِّروني، وإذا شَكَّ أحَدُكُم في صَلاته؛ فَليَتَحَرَّ الصَّلاة، وليُتمَّ عَلَيه، ثم ليُسَلِّم، ثم يَسجُد سَجدَتَين».
