Chapter: Regarding someone who prays five rak'ahs
• I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal, I said: A man prayed five rak'ahs; when should he perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness? He said: "He should perform them before the taslim."
• Ahmad said—regarding the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed five rak'ahs, then performed the prostrations after the taslim—: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) performed them after speaking." Abu 'Abd Allah (Ahmad) held the view that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not remember them until after he had spoken.
• It was said to Ahmad—on another occasion—regarding a man who prayed five rak'ahs? He said: "He performs the two prostrations of forgetfulness, and his prayer is complete."
• I asked Ahmad ibn Sa'id, I said: A man prayed five rak'ahs of a fard (obligatory) prayer out of forgetfulness? He said: "His prayer is valid, and he performs the two prostrations of forgetfulness." I said: Is that the position of the People of Hadith? He said: "Yes." I said: So are the two prostrations of forgetfulness in this case before the taslim or after? He said: "After the taslim."
999 - Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Jarir informed us, from al-Hasan ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Ibrahim ibn Suwayd, he said: 'Alqamah led us in a prayer of five rak'ahs. When he performed the taslim, the people said: O Abu Shibl, you prayed five. He said: 'Abd Allah said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in a prayer of five rak'ahs. When he turned away, it was mentioned to him, so he performed two prostrations, then performed the taslim."
1000 - Muhammad ibn al-Wazir narrated to us, he said: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said: Sa'id ibn Bashir informed me, from Mansur, from al-Hakam ibn 'Utaybah, from al-Hasan al-'Urani, from Ibn 'Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed Dhuhr as five rak'ahs, then performed the two prostrations of forgetfulness.
(1) Thus it is in the original, and the correct form is: "Bashir".
