Chapter: He Who Forgets a Prayer, Then Remembers It While in Another Prayer

• It was said to Ahmad: A man forgets a prayer, then remembers it while he is in [the midst of] prayer, and he is the Imam of a group, and they have already performed two rak'ahs? He said: "He withdraws, and the people restart the prayer."

• And I asked Ishaq about a man who forgot the Dhuhr [prayer], then remembered it while he was in the Asr prayer? He said: "He cuts it short and performs the Dhuhr [prayer]." I said: "What if he remembered it while he had finished the tashahhud but had not yet performed the taslim?" He said: "He performs the taslim, then performs the Dhuhr [prayer]," and he did not view it as necessary to cut it short in this state.

1031 - Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: Hushaym narrated to us, saying: Al-Mughirah informed us, from Ibrahim, regarding a man who forgot the Dhuhr prayer, then entered into the Asr [prayer], then remembered; he said: "He abandons the Asr and performs the Dhuhr."

1032 - Bishr ibn Hilal narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Warith narrated to us, saying: Amir al-Ahwal narrated to us, from Hammad, from Ibrahim, that he said regarding a man who forgot the Asr prayer until he entered into the Maghrib, then remembered after he had prayed one rak'ah; he said: "His prayer is invalidated; he withdraws and performs the Asr, then performs the Maghrib."

1033 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, saying: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan, who said: "If he has performed the tashahhud in the Asr [prayer], then remembered that he had not prayed the Dhuhr; the Asr is sufficient for him, and [then] he performs the Dhuhr."
