Chapter: He Who Forgets a Prayer and Does Not Know Which One It Is
• It was said to Ahmad: A man forgets a prayer and does not know which prayer it is? He said: "He performs five prayers; the prayers of a day."
• And I heard Ishaq say: "And if a man forgets a prayer and does not know which prayer it is"; he said: "He repeats five prayers."
1034 - Abu al-Azhar Ahmad ibn al-Azhar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, saying: Sufyan was asked about a man who forgot one prayer and does not know which of them he forgot? He said: "He prays three rak'ahs, two rak'ahs, and four rak'ahs, and he makes the intention. And if he left three prayers and does not know which of them he left," he said: "He prays all the prayers."
1035 - Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, saying: Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, saying: Abu Amr al-Awza'i said regarding a man who forgot a prayer and does not know which prayer it is: "Let him pray four [rak'ahs] with an iqamah."
Chapter: The Imam Experiences Hadath (Ritual Impurity), So He Advances Someone Who Preceded Him by a Rak'ah
• I heard Ishaq mention a hadith from al-Hasan regarding a man who entered the mosque and the Imam had preceded him by one rak'ah, then the Imam experienced hadath, so he advanced this man. He said: "He completes the prayer for them, then he performs the taslim, then he stands and performs his [missed] rak'ah, and his taslim does not invalidate his prayer nor their prayer."
I said: Does this please you; that he should perform the taslim while one rak'ah of his prayer remains? He said: "The opinion of Ibrahim is more beloved to me; that he commands them to perform the taslim, then he stands and performs one rak'ah."
