• I said to Ahmad: A man is in prayer, and his cloak (rida') falls from his back; should he carry it? He said: "I hope that there is no restriction in that." I said: [And] should he open the door [that is] parallel to the Qibla? He said: "[Only] in voluntary [prayer]."
1053 - Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, saying: Sharik narrated to us, from Layth, from Abu Ja'far, [both] said: "There is no harm in a man adjusting his cloak during prayer."
Chapter: The Young Person Who Is Lax with Prayer, and the One Who Abandons Prayer Intentionally
• I said to Ahmad: A man who was lax with the prayers in his youth? He said: "He must repeat them." It was said: What about the prayers he performed after that? He said: "If he was praying while mindful of what he had missed, then he must repeat them."
• I asked Ishaq, I said: A man who left one prayer intentionally and did not repeat it for a year, while he was mindful of it, then he repented? He said: "He must repeat the prayer of the entire year."
• Ishaq was asked - another time - about a man who left prayer for eight years, then repented? He said: "He should pray the first [missed] one first, and he does not repeat the Witr, nor the voluntary [prayers], nor the two rak'ahs before the morning prayer; he [only] repeats the obligatory prayers."
• I asked Ishaq - another time - I said: A man forgot a prayer, then remembered it after some days, but did not pray it, then he forgot it again, and remembered it after a year? He said: "He should pray that prayer alone." I said: And do you not consider this like the one who leaves prayer intentionally; when he remembered it but did not pray it? He said: "No, because he forgot it," and then he mentioned the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Whoever forgets a prayer, let him pray it when he remembers it."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and it indicates that the name of another narrator has been omitted, namely: 'Amir al-Sha'bi - as in Fath al-Bari by Ibn Rajab (6/357), where he quoted it from Harb.
