• And I heard Ishaq also say: "If you are an Imam, then include them all in your supplication, and say: 'We ask You for all of the good...' for it is disliked for the Imam to single himself out in supplication to the exclusion of the people."
1079 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, he said: Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, from Habib ibn Salih, from Yazid ibn Shurayh, from Abu Hayy al-Mu'adhdhin, from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A man should not lead a people in prayer and then single himself out with supplication; if he does so, he has betrayed them."
Chapter: Sending Blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) after the Tashahhud
• I asked Ishaq, I said: 'What about a man who performs the Tashahhud but does not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?' He said: "As for me, I say that his prayer is valid. Al-Shafi'i said: His prayer is not valid."
Abu Ya'qub said: "I follow the hadith of al-Hasan ibn al-Hurr, from al-Qasim ibn Mukhaymirah, from 'Alqamah, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)," meaning: "When you finish the Tashahhud, if you have a need and wish to stand, then stand."
1080 - Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, he said: al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Ju'fi and Muhammad ibn Aban narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hurr, he said: al-Qasim ibn Mukhaymirah took my hand and said: al-Qasim said: 'Alqamah took my hand and said: 'Alqamah said: Abdullah took my hand and said: Abdullah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took my hand and said: "When you perform the Tashahhud, say: 'Al-Tahiyyatu lillahi wa al-salawatu wa al-tayyibatu, al-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuhu, al-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadi Allahi al-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh' (Greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger)." Muhammad ibn Aban added in the hadith: "So when you have said this, if you have a need and wish to stand, then stand."
(1) Thus it is in the original, and above it is written "katha" (thus), and the correct [reading] is "fa-'ummhum" (include them [in your supplication]).
